1ST ANNUAL 12°N61°W Grenadian Film Festival, ANNOUNCES FESTIVAL PROGRAM

GEORGE’S, Grenada – 12°N61°W GRENADIAN FILM FESTIVAL(1261GFF), announces its’ program for the most inclusive film festival in Grenada, one of the most anticipated events of the year!

The inaugural annual event takes place from Friday, May 3rd  to Sunday, May 5th at various locations in Grenada including Lavo Lanes, Movie Palace-Excel Plaza, and Delexus Cinema Grenville and features a staggering lineup of 47 films from around the world drawing attention to Black experiences and culture.

Of the 47 films screening at the 2019 program, there are 8 features and 35 films which showcases a compilation of shorts, documentaries, and narratives. There will also be an extensive child and teen program. Approximately 22 Grenadian content creators will be highlighted in this year’s presentation.

This year’s festival theme “Beyond Boundaries” focuses on cultural and societal impact stories, with diverse voices and perspectives.  “As a black Grenadian-American female filmmaker, I am honored to provide this platform for my fellow Grenadian creatives and diverse filmmakers from around the world who’s investing so much to not only to document current issues affecting our black communities, but preserving black history and culture, which is invaluable now and will be for the coming years and decades”, said 1261GFF Director Meschida Philip.  “Once again, we’re excited to present work by established and emerging filmmakers who are telling important stories about our blackness and culture.”

The other half of our festival is preceded by industry-focused workshops, featuring international producers and facilitators from around the Caribbean region and North America.   There are also special events and programs for everyone, including special screenings for children, talks and an afterparty.

Individual children tickets will be $13.00 EC, General admission tickets will be  $25 EC, film passes are available for advanced purchase now, with student/group discounts available.

The 12°N61°W GRENADIAN FILM FESTIVAL (1261GFF), presented by Mprojekts Creative Group, brings filmmakers and diverse audiences together to celebrate black voices in cinema. Rooted in independent film, 1261GFF is a platform for creative expression and immersive entertainment. The Festival champions emerging and established award-winning filmmakers and creators; curates innovative experiences; and introduces exhibitions, workshops, talks, and live performances.

The Festival was founded by Grenadian-American filmmaker, Meschida Philip in 2018 as a destination to spur cinematic experiences in Grenada. The inaugural annual edition will take place May 3 – May 5, 2019.
