First off, I hereby express sympathy to the family of Kurt and I urge you please stay strong, trusting in the lord that he is in safe hands. To the injured occupants of the other vehicle involved,I wish you all, a complete and speedy recovery. Zim, I totally agree with you, when you said that the unexpected speed traps will be the best deterent. I also believe that the road traffic laws should be looked into and make ammendments to same by introducing stiffer penalties to violaters. Just last week, state troopers up here caught couple guys engaging in drag-racing on the L.I.E with their modified cars, the troopers clocked them doing speeds in excess of 100mph. Those guys were arrested, had their cars impounded and they were sent to jail. Those charges ranged from, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, engaging in an unlawfull practice, intention to commit vehicular assault among others. They were also cited for having racing materials/instruments installed that made those vehicles "street illegal". I do believe that it is the responsibility of the driver of any given vehicle to act in a manner that will ensure his/her safety and the safety of other road users when they drive. I am no saint, for in my younger days (fewer vehicles), I was guilty although never charged, of unsafe operation of a vehicle which could have resulted in death, but believe me, that was a life changing experience for me, it has given me weak legs whenever I drive a bit fast. It is rather unfortunate that kaution will be remembered this way, but it might just help to enact and name a law against speeding in his name. It might just help us to slow down when he is remembered. |
